Flying as passenger - a fascinating experience
A tandem flight is the easiest, safest and fastest way to make a step in the world of paragliding and discover the most beautiful landscapes from above. If you are curious to experience the feeling of paragliding, a tandem flight is just the thing you need.
With a 40 square meters glider and the most recent equipment, we take off within a few meters only. As with a solo glider, we can use the weak winds, or depending on the weather fly with birds in the thermals, sometimes up to the cloud base. Whether we just quietly glide to the landing place, fly as long and high as possible in the thermals or make dynamic maneuvers, depends only on you and the weather conditions. The only prerequisites to fly as a passenger are good shoes, a wind-proof jacket and minimum 30 kg body weight.
In the air, the pilot and passenger roles are easily exchangeable, so that you can also try and stir the glider by yourself. In this way, you can get easily and impression and decide if you want to start the pilot training, and practice regularly the nicest and easiest flying sport.

Theory course

For the pilot license theory exam, you need to demonstrate basic knowledge in 5 subjects: flight principles, flying practice, meteorology, equipment and regulation.
With a theoretical background, you can avoid careless decisions during flights and therefore increase the fun factor. A solid understanding of aerology and meteorology, good knowledge of the regulation and equipment are necessary for you to feel confident in the air. You can always learn something new and use it to your advantage. This also true for old hands.
For you to get familiar with the needed basics, we offer evening theory courses in 7 double lectures and a test exam. The theory course (in German) covers the material for the theoretical license exam, and is also useful as refresher for licensed pilots.
For pilots who want to deepen their practice and learn more about miniwing and speed flying, we also offer a miniwing/speed flying course, which covers the basics of these fields.

With an adequate safety training, you extend your comfort zone when you areflying. You get to know better the behavior of your glider in special situations and experience how to control your wing instead of being controlled by it.
In ideal conditions, above a lake, you learn how to engage and complete different maneuvers, how to avoid wrong reactions in different situations and you test your personal limits. How far you try and which maneuvers to do is your choice. Your instructor takes your wishes into account and proposes you a training program adapted to your needs and level.

If your are of age, you have completed 150 flights and you have a pilot license for more than a year, you can start the training for the tandem pilot license.
Biplace 1 (pilot-pilot)
The Tandem 1 training consists in an introductory flight in tandem with your instructor and 10 flights with a licensed pilot as passenger under the supervision of the instructor. You obtain the tandem 1 license (pilot-pilot) if you succeed at the practical exam.
Biplace 3 (pilot-passenger)
To perform (commercial) passenger flights with non-licensed persons, you must have the Tandem 3 license. The training for the tandem 3 level encompasses 40 tandem flights with a licensed pilot as passenger. At least 20 of these 40 flights must be performed under the supervision of an instructor. The exam consists of a theoretical exam on passenger flights, a solo practical exam and a tandem practical exam. You can register for the theoretical exam only if you are at least 20 years old. You need to pass the theoretical exam to register at the solo practical exam, and you must have the tandem 1 license for at least 6 months. The need to pass the solo practical exam to register for the tandem practical exam.
Costs
The tandem training takes place within the normal flying program of the school. If you are buying your tandem equipment through the Magiclift school, the tandem training costs CHF 350. Without purchase of a tandem equipment through the school, we charge an extra CHF 500.

Learn paragliding

Would you like to learn paragliding? Then, go! In our flight school, we train you into an autonomous paraglider pilot at various, easy to reach flying sites. We teach you during the initiation day on a training slope how to take off correctly, how to control the paraglider on the ground, how to make small hops and how to land on both feet. Within 3 to 4 afternoons, you improve your take off and landing technique in the Basic Course, that you can conclude with your first big flight under radio guidance. If you like paragliding, in the Licence Course you can make as many flights as you need to prepare for the paraglider pilot licence exam.
What our school offers
At Magiclift, you will not only know the pleasure of a solid paragliding training, but you will also get to know a variety of attractive flying spots with their take off and landing sites, how to evaluate correctly the weather conditions before take off and you will meet people with lots of great flying stories to tell. We have a seat for you in our flight school bus to get to the flight sites. As student pilot, you can participate in our diversified yearly program of flying trips, grill evenings, excursions to paragliding festivals or acro flight shows and many other activities.
In our school, you are at the center of your own training: we adapt our training program to your experience and give you before each flight an exercise adapted to your progression level. For you to make quick progress and improve constantly, we give you immediate feedback.

Situation: close to Zurich or halfway to the flying site
From our home base in Horgen, about 20 minutes from the city of Zurich, we can reach in little time a wide choice of beautiful flying sites in central Switzerland, Glarnerland, eastern Switzerland or Bündnerland. We decide where to go for courses and big flights based on the weather conditions. That is how we get the longest possible airtime from a training day.
